Description
The Night Watch decorative cushion: Rembrandt on your sofa
The Night Watch decorative cushion by ZenXhome is a 40 x 40 cm art cushion featuring the most famous painting by Rembrandt van Rijn. It comes with the cushion filling included, so you can place it straight on your sofa, armchair or bed. An unmistakably Dutch accent for anyone who loves the Golden Age.
The dark tones and warm golden yellow of The Night Watch go beautifully with an interior featuring wood, leather or earth tones, but also create a striking contrast on a light or grey sofa. Combine the cushion with a plain cushion in black, ochre or cognac, or with another art cushion from the ZenXhome Dutch Masters collection. Because the image is instantly recognisable, it also makes a lovely gift for birthdays, a housewarming or someone who has just visited the Rijksmuseum.

About the painting
Rembrandt van Rijn completed The Night Watch in 1642, commissioned by the Amsterdam civic militia company of Captain Frans Banninck Cocq and Lieutenant Willem van Ruytenburch. At roughly 3.8 by 4.5 metres, the canvas is enormous. The nickname Night Watch only came later, when yellowed varnish made the painting look dark; the scene actually takes place during the day. The work is the centrepiece of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where it hangs in the Gallery of Honour.
