The Oakley Flight Deck L ski goggles in Matte Black with a Prizm Snow Sapphire Iridium lens are made for skiers and snowboarders who spend a lot of time on the slopes on sunny days and in changeable weather. According to Oakley, the blue mirrored lens lets through 13% of the light. That means less squinting in bright sunshine, while Prizm technology keeps contrast in the snow visible.

The rimless design is derived from fighter pilot visors and offers a wide field of view upwards and to the sides. Being size L, this is the version for average to wide faces. The goggles sit flush with most ski helmets and have cut-outs at the temples so they fit over most glasses. If you mostly ski in grey weather or late in the afternoon, a lighter lens such as Prizm Snow Persimmon is a better choice.

Fit and size

The Flight Deck L is the large size of the Flight Deck. Oakley describes the fit as large with a wide fit: suitable for adults with an average to wide face who want the largest possible field of view. If you have a narrower face or a smaller helmet, take a look at the Flight Deck XM (medium). Bring your helmet when trying them on: the top edge of the goggles should sit flush with the helmet, without a gap on your forehead.

In what weather do I use the Prizm Snow Sapphire Iridium lens?

This lens lets through 13% of the light and, according to Oakley, is intended for sun and cloud. It works best on clear and partly cloudy days. In heavy cloud, snowfall or fog the view becomes too dark; choose a lighter lens such as Prizm Snow Persimmon (39%) or Prizm Snow Hi Pink (46%) instead.

What is the difference between the Flight Deck L and the Flight Deck XM?

They are the same goggles in two sizes. The Flight Deck L is large with a 50 mm strap and best suits average to wide faces. The XM (now Flight Deck M) is medium with a 40 mm strap and better suits narrower faces or smaller helmets. According to Oakley, both have a wide fit.

Can I wear the Flight Deck L with glasses?

Oakley has added cut-outs at the temples so the Flight Deck L fits over most glasses. It does depend on the size of your frame. With a large or wide frame, we recommend trying the goggles on at home first; you have a 14-day cooling-off period.

Will the Flight Deck L fit my ski helmet?

According to Oakley, the rimless frame makes the Flight Deck easy to combine with helmets. The 50 mm strap with silicone inside stays securely on the helmet. When trying them on, check that the top edge of the goggles sits flush with your helmet, without a gap on your forehead.
