Oakley Flight Deck XM Matte Black with Prizm Snow Persimmon

The Oakley Flight Deck XM Matte Black is the medium Flight Deck with an orange Prizm Snow Persimmon lens. It is intended for skiers and snowboarders with a narrow to average face who are looking for all-round goggles for changeable and overcast weather. According to Oakley, the lens lets through 39% of light and is made for snow and cloud.

In grey weather, the contours in the snow blur. The Persimmon lens enhances that contrast, so you notice bumps, tracks and ice sooner. The black frame is understated and goes with any helmet. Oakley now calls the XM the Flight Deck M; it is smaller than the Flight Deck L and therefore often fits better under a compact helmet. For clear blue days high in the mountains, we recommend an additional dark lens.

Fit and size

Oakley now calls the Flight Deck XM the Flight Deck M. It is the same goggle in a smaller size than the Flight Deck L: medium, with a wide fit. Choose the XM if you have a narrow to average face, or if the L presses against your cheekbones or nose. If your helmet does not work well with large goggles, the XM is often the better choice. If in doubt, email us your helmet brand and size.

Is the Flight Deck XM with Persimmon lens a good all-round ski goggle?

For European ski areas with changeable weather, yes. With 39% light transmission, the Persimmon lens is intended by Oakley for snow and cloud, and it also works well on partly cloudy days. In full sun at high altitude it is on the light side; for that you can bring a dark replacement lens.

Should I choose the Flight Deck XM or L?

Consider your face and your helmet. The XM (now Flight Deck M) is medium and suits a narrow to average face and compact helmets. The Flight Deck L is larger with a 50 mm strap, for a wider face and maximum field of view. If the goggles press on your nose or cheeks, they are too big.

Does the Flight Deck XM fit every helmet?

Oakley designed the Flight Deck rimless for a good fit with helmets. Whether it fits your helmet depends on the shape of the helmet rim. There should be no large gap between goggles and helmet, and the helmet should not push the goggles down. If in doubt, send us your helmet model.

Can I wear these ski goggles over my glasses?

Yes, with most glasses. The Flight Deck XM has cut-outs at the temples for the arms of your glasses. With large or tall frames the XM may feel tight; the Flight Deck L then offers more room. If in doubt, try it on at home with your own glasses.
